Programme of Build for LSV

Further to our brief update last week regarding the LSV contract now having gone unconditional, you will already be aware that the Leigh East Clubhouse continues in full flow and is on schedule, in spite of some fairly grotty weather conditions. People have already started to notice the traffic advisory signs and the cones that have started to be laid on Atherleigh bypass as well as the removal of shrubs and some trees at the entrance, etc.

We are getting several enquiries now about the roll out of the programme and of course, the completion date. From my enquiries with the project engineers and the builders, we think the following dates are pretty realistic, although the final programme is obviously going through a settling down process as final tenders are issued and problems with build or infrastructure come to light.

You will have already seen the fenced off compound around Leigh East and the blue portacabins that are there to house ROK on that particular project. Further cabins will be in evidence shortly as the different parts of the project come on line.

McAlpines have started on the infrastructure, which involves drainage and water diversions, which should be complete by the end of August this year. The various roads connecting the northern and southern ends of the site should be complete by the first week in October, 2006.

As regards the construction of the various pitches and the running track, these should start about May this year and be ready for mid-October.


We think Leigh East Clubhouse should be complete by mid-June.

Work on the sports hall gymnasium pool should start in May and should be complete by mid-May, 2007.

Work on the College should start at the same time and finish mid-March, 2007.

Work on Leigh Harriers Clubhouse will start in August and be finished by January next year.

Obviously the stadium contracts are in the process of tender and we will not know for sure what the start and end dates are for this particular aspect, but we like to think that the whole thing will be finished by December, 2007.

We are hoping shortly to be able to post a layout plan of the site (which keeps being refined) and we hope to be able to post some elevations of the various buildings in due course. What we have seen so far looks pretty impressive.

Of course once the roads and the infrastructure are complete there will be a concerted effort in developing the landscaping and it is important to do this at the right time of year. It looks as if this will take place from mid-August to mid-October. After two or three growing seasons it should look really nice and attractive to people and wildlife.

We think that the other commercial aspects of the site such as the hotel, pub, cinema, bowling alley, etc. will start about mid-2006 and will carry on right through to the end of 2007.

The nice thing to report at the moment is that the take up of the commercial side is going well and there are some fairly big companies really interested in exercising their options.

An LSV Residents' Committee has been formed. We have had one meeting, which was pretty sparsely attended, but you are very welcome to attend. The next one is at Leigh Miners on Wednesday, 22nd March at 7.00 p.m..
