Local Olympian makes cut

Paralympic silver medallist cuts first sod for the Leigh Sports Village Swimming pool.

Chris Pugh is pictured cutting the first sod on the site where the new Leigh Sports Village Swimming Pool is to be built. Chris won a silver medal at the Sydney Olympics as part of the gloriously successful Great Britain team.  GB collected the most medals in the pool with 62 in total and stood 3rd in the rankings with 15 golds behind Canada and Spain.  Overall GB achieved their best ever result as the second most successful team behind the host nation Australia.
