New Era In
Education
| New students arrived at the newly built Leigh
Sixth Form College on Sale Way on Monday morning. This
purpose-built centre will be the new home for AS and A Level
students and will also house courses in Sport, Early Years and
Health and Social Care.
The £4.5million building will provide
ultra-modern facilities, including specialist laboratories,
media edit suites, music rooms, multi-disciplinary performance
space, art and design workshop/studio, language laboratory, ICT
classrooms, integrated library and a learning resources
technology centre.
The building sits within the £83million
development on the Leigh Sports Village site, which will provide
specialist sports facilities, including a sports hall, swimming
pool, football and rugby pitches and an outdoor athletics track. |

One of the first students to arrive was Shaun
Baxter, a former pupil at Fred Longworth High School. Shaun
commented on how well the College had treated his application
and how much he had been looking forward to studying at the new
building.
A new LSVGo shuttle bus service has been set
up with Wigan Community Transport to link the new Leigh Sports
Village with the centre of town and to improve the comfort and
safety of students at the new building.
Liz Shaw, the Head of the new Sixth Form,
said, “We are very pleased to welcome our new students to the
Leigh Sixth Form College. This is an exciting day for the
College and for all of us interested in the future of education
in the borough.”
