HALL CONSTRUCTION NETS NEW CONTRACT
Greenbank has awarded a further major
contract on its multi-million pound Leigh Sports Village at
Pennington Park, near Wigan.
Durham-based Hall Construction Services Ltd has won the £17.5 m
contract to build a 10,000 capacity sports stadium. The stadium
will be used by all the major sporting clubs in the town
including Leigh RMI Football Club, Leigh Centurions Rugby League
Club and Leigh Harriers Athletic Club.
The stadium will also be used for key amateur and schools
fixtures as well as for local community events. The building
includes extensive hospitality and banqueting facilities along
with new offices and commercial areas. A new access road with
car parking and infrastructure will also be provided.
The year long contract is due to start in spring 2007.
Leigh Sports Village at Pennington Park is a partnership between
developers Greenbank and Wigan MBC, along with Wigan & Leigh
College. The development will be the focal point for all sports
leisure activities in Leigh, providing a wide range of
activities – including swimming, athletics, football and rugby –
within an accessible, pleasant and green environment.
As well as the sports stadium, Leigh Sports Village will include
a new sixth-form college, running track, swimming pool and gym,
a 150-room 4 star hotel, high quality offices and retail
facilities, including a cinema.
Construction work on the site got under way at the beginning of
2006 and the second phase including the new stadium is due for
completion in 2008.
