Leigh Sports Village Legacy 10k and Fun Run

PEOPLE young and old are being encouraged to become part of an Olympic inspired sporting event at Leigh Sports Village.

Active Synergy, a sports event management group – in partnership with the village and supported by Leigh Harriers – have organised a 10k event and fun run.

Open to everyone regardless of fitness, age or gender the event is inspired by the London 2012 Olympics and will take place on the 25th July, with the start and finish at LSV and taking in the Pennington Flash country Park.

The event has been teamed with charitable giving website, Everyday Hero, and Lee Povah of Active Synergy said: “This will allow people to run, jog or walk for a good cause that is close to their hearts.
“This could be anything from the local scouts, sports club or hospice to a national charity.
“This way we can ensure that sponsorship raised has an impact locally.”

The 10K is open to over 15’s whilst the Fun Run is open to seven to 15 year olds and people with a disability. We are encouraging people to enter as individuals or as a team of 3 as a club, school, business or family.

Lee Povah of Active Synergy says this is the perfect event to harness the unique partnership approach and volunteer workforce the village was built upon.

He added: “We wanted to deliver a high profile sporting event in Leigh and I think this will have a positive impact on the local community.
“As well as showing off the fantastic facilities the village has to offer we will be looking to replicate the legacy the Olympics will create,
“It will be on a smaller scale but will hopefully have a massive impact on local sport, raising participation, along with training and volunteers.

Young people between the ages of 16 and 19 who are not in employment, education or training will also be offered a nationally recognized qualification in event support and Lee added: “There is something for everyone to get involved in. We don’t just want to attract elite athletes. We want to develop a real sense of community spirit.”
