The trust had a major input into the design and use of Leigh Sports Village.   Swinton Lions RLFC Swinton Lions RFLC was formed in October 1866 and despite being based in the Salford area, play all their home matches at Leigh Sports Village . The club has won the Championship six times and three Challenge Cups. The club was formed when members of Swinton Cricket Club decided to take up football in the winter and then in 1871 they joined the Rugby Football Union.
