Leigh Sports Village Achieves Silver Greengage Certification
Earlier this year, we pledged to reach Net Carbon Zero in alignment with Wigan Council by 2038. In our next step towards this goal, we are delighted to announce we have just achieved a Silver Eco Smart Certification for our sustainability initiatives with Greengage, improving on our previous Bronze Certification which we were awarded in April this year. This illustrates our commitment to driving environmental change around the village, as we recognise our sustainability obligations to our staff, visitors, communities, stakeholders and other interested parties and to present and succeeding generations.
Some of our recent developments have included:
- Appointing Sustainability Champions across the entire LSV site, with specific key performance indicators set.
- Introduced a forum where sustainability ideas can be discussed and green targets are updated.
- Appointing a hydrogeologist to explore viability for new water supplies for the irrigation system.
- Regular water saving audits completed and scheduled by United Utilities, the first in November 2025 with 105nr tap aerators and 10nr cistern buff bags installed.
- Having defined green targets in place which consist of: empowering our team, addressing Scope 3 emissions, phasing out single use packaging across out sites and tackling food waste with our waste management processes.
