2025 has been a landmark year for Leigh Sports Village, filled with achievement, community pride and continued investment in our facilities and people. As we look back, we want to thank our incredible team for making each milestone possible and our visitors for their unwavering support. Here are our top 10 moments of 2025.
Hosting Leigh Leopards Women’s Home Matches
For the first time, Leigh Sports Village proudly hosted Leigh Leopards Women’s Super League fixtures. Following their promotion into the league, the team delivered a great debut season full of determination and passion. It has been a privilege to support their journey and welcome their growing fanbase to the stadium.
Achieving Silver Eco‑Smart Certification with Greengage
Our commitment to sustainability has never been stronger. This year, we continued to reduce our environmental footprint across sport, events, health, and education programmes. After achieving Bronze Eco‑Smart Certification earlier in the year, we were delighted to progress to Silver, another step toward our pledge to reach Net Carbon Zero by 2038, in alignment with Wigan Council.
Manchester United Women Qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League
A huge moment of pride came as Manchester United Women secured qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the 2025/26 season. Their campaign is already off to a fantastic start and we are honoured to host such prestigious fixtures at LSV.
Launching FUB Hub Leigh
We were thrilled to host the launch of Females United in Business (FUB) Hub Leigh, an inspiring networking event led by Sue France. After years of success in Wigan, bringing this empowering initiative to Leigh has been a privilege, supporting the hardworking women who drive our town forward.
The HERD and National Nature Reserve Week at Pennington Flash
Pennington Flash welcomed thousands of visitors as they hosted the Herds event, a global public art and climate initiative showcasing sustainable, live art installations from Africa to the Arctic Circle. This was followed by a high‑profile National Nature Reserve Week event for local families. Our Hide and Pennington Flash teams delivered both events brilliantly.
New Signage Across the LSV Site
Improving visitor experience is always a priority at Leigh Sports Village. This year, we invested in more than 300 new signs across the site, enhancing accessibility and ensuring a smoother customer journey. This included a new site map, an updated car parking strategy and a new Sports Hub rebrand.
Leigh Leopards Make Their First Home Playoff
History was made as Leigh Leopards secured their first ever home Super League playoff, finishing third, their highest position to date. From lasers and pyrotechnics to their now‑famous bubble machine, we were proud to help create the Greatest Show in Super League for their supporters.
Concerts Announced for 2026
September brought excitement as we announced two major concerts in partnership with Live Nation for 2026. The first, featuring Billy Ocean with Marti Pellow, will take place on Friday 29th May, followed by The lottery Winners on Saturday 30th May, marking the start of an exciting new era of live entertainment at LSV.
Fundraising for Alfie Sales
Leigh Youth Hub went above and beyond this year to support 11‑year‑old Alfie Sales, who lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Through fundraising and awareness efforts, the team raised an incredible £2,000 to help make Alfie’s dream wish list a reality. Their compassion and dedication towards Alfie’s cause was inspiring.
Cutting‑Edge Lighting Rigs Installed at LSV
We recently installed Rhenac’s CLS® lighting system, which replicates natural sunlight to improve pitch vitality while supporting the borough’s environmental goals. This innovation will enhance playing conditions for Leigh Leopards, Manchester United Women, and Manchester United’s Under‑21s. More details will be revealed in January.
