Leigh Sports Village Complete the Epic Born Survivor Challenge for Charity

On Saturday 12 September, a team from Leigh Sports Village (LSV) took on the gruelling 6K Born Survivor Challenge in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, raising vital funds for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Wigan and Leigh Hospice provides specialist inpatient and outpatient palliative care and end of life support for residents across the Wigan Borough. Based in Hindley, just a few miles from LSV, the charity delivers outstanding care to people living with life-limiting illnesses, while also supporting families through bereavement and end of life care. To maintain its essential services, the hospice must raise an additional £12,000 every day and the team at Leigh Sports Village were proud to support the charity by taking on the Born Survivor Challenge.

Over a 12 week period, the team trained extensively in preparation for the event, testing themselves both physically and mentally. The challenging 6K obstacle course tested participants with mud, water, climbing obstacles and endurance based challenges throughout the course. Five members of the Leigh Sports Village team, Karen, Mark, John, Maiya and Megan, successfully completed the challenge in bleak weather conditions and raised an impressive £1,130 for Wigan and Leigh Hospice. Their efforts will help the charity continue providing vital care and support to local people and their families when they need it most.

Karen Campbell, team member at LSV said, “It was tough, muddy, exhausting and, at times, I definitely questioned why I had signed up! But every obstacle was made easier by having such a fantastic team around me supporting each other, laughing through the mud, picking each other up and crossing that finish line together. A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored us, supported us and cheered us on.”

The challenge was a fantastic achievement for the team and demonstrated Leigh Sports Village’s ongoing commitment to supporting important local charities and making a positive difference within the community. The team would like to thank everyone who donated, supported and encouraged them throughout their fundraising journey.
