Our Mission:
To be the number one venue for health, education, sport and events. Ensuring that wellbeing, sporting culture and educational opportunities are equally available to all, through engagement and co-production with our local communities.
Leigh Sports Village
Leigh Sports Village provides a state of the art facility for health, education, sport and events that serves the whole community. The centrepiece of the development is a 12,000-capacity stadium, now known as the Progress With Unity Stadium, home to professional rugby league team Leigh Leopards and Manchester United Women’s and Under 21’s football teams.
We have hosted a multitude of international sporting events at the village from the Rugby League World Cup events in 2013 and in 2022, to the UEFA Women’s Euros in 2022. Most recently we have hosted the finishing line for the Women’s Tour of Britain in June 2024. We’ve also presented many live music gigs most notably both Lionel Richie and Sir Elton John have graced our stage in front of crowds of over 17,000.
Leigh Sports Hub
Leigh Sports Hub is the region’s premier artificial grass sports complex offering 10 professional quality pitches that can be adapted for a full size or a six a side game. Pitch hire is available to members of the public. It is also home to local rugby league club Leigh East.
Leigh Harriers & Athletics Club
Leigh Harriers & Athletics Club boasts a full-sized athletics track and grass pitch. The club has had a presence in Leigh since 1909 and offers grass roots support to many young athletes. The club has contributed to many great athletics careers including Keeley Hodgkinson who brought home a gold medal at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Pennington Flash and The Hide Coffee House
Just a short walk away from the Leigh Sports Village complex, you will find The Hide Café in the heart of Pennington Flash– part of Wigan Borough’s Flashes National Nature Reserve. This is the perfect hide-out for North-West nature lovers- serving fresh barista coffee, breakfast, lunch, cakes, snacks and not forgetting ice cream!
Leigh Youth Hub
The latest addition to the complex is Leigh Youth Hub, which was created by young people, for young people. Leigh Youth Hub is a safe and inclusive space for young people aged aged 8-18 or 25 with additional needs or disabilities to relax, learn a new skill and make friends.
Progress with Unity Stadium
From Autumn 2025 The stadium at Leigh Sports Village has been known as the Progress with Unity Stadium; home of Leigh Leopards and Manchester United Women & U21s. Progress with Unity stadium is Wigan Borough’s 10-year plan to create fairer opportunities and thriving communities spear headed by Wigan Council.
“Leigh Sports Village is a complex of facilities to be proud of, hosting professional and grassroots organisations and delivering community-based services. We believe the new name is an appropriate step to promote what we are trying to achieve here in our borough and be a figurehead for our shared values.” (Wigan Council Leader Councillor David Molyneux MBE)
The Leigh Sports Village name will remain in place in reference to the wider site. More detailed FAQs can be found below.
