Our First Catering Work Experience With Expanse Learning

Leigh Sports Village is proud to have hosted a multitude of work experience placements across our different departments however, Callum’s story is one of great pride.

Callum Coghlam, our first work experience student in hospitality, was welcomed to our catering team in partnership with Expanse learning in recent weeks. Every Wednesday Callum joins our chefs, Simon and Chris, to continue developing his skills in food preparation and kitchen operations.

Callum has always had a passion for cooking and baking, often practising at home in his own time. Working in a professional kitchen has been a long-standing dream of his and this placement is giving him the chance to learn new recipes, food preparation techniques and safe cooking practices so he can continue to pursue that dream with a range of experience behind him. One of his proudest moments so far has been helping to cook, prepare and serve 250 burgers for a large onsite event, along with assisting in the daily preparation of lunches for Oakfield High School.

Our catering team have created a safe and welcoming environment where Callum feels supported and confident to ask questions, something that we know has helped him grow week by week. We pride ourselves on offering inclusive, welcoming spaces for young people to learn and grow through work experience placements and other educational opportunities, not only at our stadium, but other areas of our site too.

We know how important student work experience placements are in Leigh and to our local community. This is why in partnership with Expanse Learning, we are proud to be able to deliver an educational experience with inclusive learning.

We want to say a huge well done to Callum and our team for their ongoing partnership. Working together has enabled Callum to develop those vital skills to enter the world of independent work in the future and this will make such a huge impact for him!
