Leading Live Event Venue Award
The Leading Live Event Venue Award recognises venues that make a significant contribution to the visitor economy while delivering accessible, inclusive and well-managed events for diverse audiences.
Leigh Sports Village is proud to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award. Home to Leigh Leopards Rugby League and Manchester United Women’s and Under-21s teams, LSV hosts everything from international sporting events and live concerts to conferences, meetings and celebrations. Alongside attracting visitors and supporting the local economy, Leigh Sports Village remains committed to providing an accessible and inclusive experience for all. Being recognised as a finalist is a testament to the hard work of our teams, partners and stakeholders who help make Leigh Sports Village a leading venue for live events in the North West.

Leading Live Event Award:
The Leading Live Event Award recognises events that demonstrate excellence in concept, planning, delivery, audience experience and cultural impact. Judging also considers contribution to the local economy, commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the event’s overall social value.
LSV has been shortlisted for their 2026 Summer Concert Series, as it was a landmark moment bringing major live music back to the venue for the first time in eight years. Across two concerts, LSV welcomed 24,000 attendees to enjoy performances from internationally renowned artists including Billy Ocean, with special guest Marti Pellow, alongside local favourites The Lottery Winners. The 2026 Summer Concert Series showcased Leigh Sports Village’s ability to deliver major live entertainment, while generating significant economic benefits for local businesses and raising the town’s profile as an events destination.
The concerts provided The Lottery Winners with their first ever stadium headline event, in non other than their hometown, creating a memorable moment. Delivered in partnership with leading industry organisations such as Live Nation and The Events Company, the concerts demonstrated excellence in planning, accessibility and customer experience, while leaving a lasting cultural and economic legacy for Leigh.

Organisations Making A Difference Award:
The Organisations Making A Difference Award celebrates organisations that prioritise community wellbeing and create meaningful, measurable outcomes. Judging considers how initiatives have been embedded over time and how they support diverse communities, particularly young people and underrepresented groups.
Leigh Sports Village delivers a wide range of programmes that support the physical and mental wellbeing of the local community. Key examples include Leigh Youth Hub and Leigh Sports Hub, two community focused facilities dedicated to providing accessible youth services and high quality sporting opportunities. Leigh Youth Hub supports young people with additional needs and disabilities while ensuring services remain free and accessible, helping young people feel safe and supported. Leigh Sports Hub is home to a range of grassroots organisations including Leigh East who provide sports opportunities for the local community.
Alongside its onsite facilities, Leigh Sports Village’s wider wellbeing offer extends through its operation of Pennington Flash and partnerships with organisations including Leigh Harriers Athletics Club. Together, these provide opportunities for physical activity, volunteering, outdoor recreation and social connection. LSV is also home to one of Wigan Borough’s council operated leisure centres, featuring a recently renovated gym, a 25-metre swimming pool and a multi purpose sports hall that welcomes thousands of visits annually.

Leigh Sports Village is incredibly honoured to be shortlisted for three This Is Manchester Awards and to be recognised alongside some of Greater Manchester’s most respected organisations. We would like to congratulate all shortlisted finalists and wish them the very best of luck.
